Abstract
In the place of biological needs of importance, this paper suggests a theory of human motivation based on socio-economic needs. Depending on whether social relationships are functional to these needs, they are reflected either in predatory survival attitudes and behavior or in conformity to normative pressures. So-called “higher order” values or “growth” motivation is but a reflection of conformity to normative pressures in societies where social relationships are functional to social and material enhancement. These two levels correspond to the socio-economic relations in survival societies or those with scarce resources (and competitive ones). Socio-economic relations is the basis for a socio-cultural model for hostile intergroup images.Keywords
