Abstract
Item response theory (IRT) is a mathematically rigorous and computationally complex measurement theory which has potential utility in psychomotor measurement. The present paper complements Spray's heuristic description of IRT and one of its applications “adaptive testing“; presenting additional applications of IRT in physical education, drawbacks of IRT parameter estimation and theory, and recommendations for future IRT research in physical education. Keywords
