Abstract
A digital peak reader, providing both the peak height and the peak area from the same transient absorbance signal, has been built and tested. The general performance including drift-compensating capability is reported. Three degrees of signal damping can be selected and the influence of these on the shape of analytical curves is illustrated for cadmium. The peak reader was applied to direct atomization of lead from a stainless steel wire, and the two methods of measuring absorbance signals were compared. Using the integrated absorbance values, the useful range of the calibration curve as well as the precision of the measurements were materially improved. Keywords
