Abstract
The entropy of vacancies in sodium chloride is calculated from the ionic displacements produced by the Coulomb field of the vacancies and from the corresponding changes of the lattice frequencies. Using the displacements recently calculated by Tosi and Fumi it is found that, contrary to earlier expectations, the sum of all the frequency changes is positive. Some physical consequences of this result are discussed. Keywords
