Cytology of the genus Alysicarpus neck. ex desv. (fabaceae).

Abstract
Six species of the genus Alysicarpus [A. longifolius, A. procumbens, A. monilifer, A. tetragonolobus, A. ovalifolius and A. vaginalis] are investigated. The detailed karyotypic analysis revealed the presence of 1 pair of secondarily constricted chromosomes (D type) in all the species justifying their inclusion in 1 genus. Though karyotypes exhibit gross similarity, they differ from each other in minor details. The regularity of meiotic behavior is noticed, in all the taxa. However, some abnormalities are also recorded. The basic number x = 8 for the genus is supported by this work.
