Abstract
Decreased collagen biosynthesis by 10-day-old chick embryo tibiae was observed under the influence of sodium diphenylhydantoinate. A complex was formed by the drug and ferrous or ferric ions. An inhibition of the hydroxylation of 14C-proline and 14C-lysine may be a consequence of the binding of ferrous ions to the drug. In addition, a decreased incorporation of 14C-glucosamine was observed. A hampered collagen biosynthesis has also been observed to be effected by other drugs capable of producing a lupus-like syndrome. Keywords
