Status of Malaria Eradication in the Americas

Abstract
It is a special honor for me to present to so distinguished an audience a report on the status of malaria eradication in the Americas, the progress achieved, and the obstacles encountered. We are sure that an exchange of ideas and experiences between eminent research workers in various fields of malariology and the staff responsible for operations will lead to new modes of action or avenues for research with a view to the solution of the problems that are jeopardizing progress towards eradication in different areas of the Continent. BACKGROUND Since the XIII Pan American Sanitary Conference in 1950 supported the idea of eradicating malaria and authorized it as an operational program, and the XIV Conference in 1954 agreed to undertake the eradication of malaria in the Americas, this view has been ratified by the VIII World Health Assembly in 1955, which gave it a world dimension.
