THE INTRADERMAL SALT TEST IN FEVER

Abstract
Observations were made on 34 subjects: 80 observations on 16 patients with pyelitis, lung abscess and other specific infections; 20 observations on 4 paretics in whom fever had been induced by hot baths; and 26 observations on 13 patients with postoperative fever following thyroidec-tomy. The fever of infectious disease, and that following the injection of foreign protein, causes a marked reduction in the disappearance time of intradermally injected salt solution. Fever causes by external heat in the form of hot immersion baths has no effect on the disappearance time. Fever following thyroidectomy in toxic goiter (thyroid crisis) usually has no effect on the disappearance time of injected saline.
