Abstract
This paper describes a particular setting of parenthood, a part of the middle-life experience of many parents: the sending off to college of a son or daughter. For the mental health professional involved in parent conferences during a college orientation period, understanding the psychodynamics of the family-life cycle at this critical period is essential. Such understanding is an important tool in promoting the process of parenthood, which in itself enhances the maturation of their college late adolescent. Keywords
