Abstract
The serum Ca and P levels were detd. in 73 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 6 patients with degenerative joint disease and found to be essentially normal. Ca, P and N balances were studied in 9 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 3 patients with degenerative joint disease. All patients received a constant diet adequate in all respects except for a low Ca content. A slightly increased rate of Ca metabolism and increased Ca excretion was found in the patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and a slightly decreased Ca excretion in the individuals with degenerative joint disease. The increased excretion in the rheumatoid patients was most apparent in the urine, the avg. urinary excretion being 0.32 g./3-day period in contrast to 0.19 g. in normal controls. Keywords
