Abstract
Saprinus detritus (Fabricius, 1775; as Hister) described from Australia has turned out to be a species endemic to New Zealand. The beetle was well known in New Zealand for over 100 years under the wrong name of Saprinus pseudocyaneus White, 1846 (a junior synonym of S. cyaneus (Fabricius, 1775)), which conversely had been described from New Zealand whilst being, in fact, an Australian species. Saprinus antipodus Dahlgren, 1971 becomes a junior synonym of S. detritus (Fabricius). Keywords
