Abstract
A hot metal wire creates a knee in the fibre and a score in the hollow of the knee. The knee is used to introduce a nonuniform stress distribution across the fibre with a maximum at the score. Reproducible mirror-finished fibre ends were made by using a compact tool. Keywords
