Abstract
The dried residue of steam distilled white cabbage caused no change in the thyroid as cabbage loses its strumigenic activity and more than half of its S-content. Cooked fresh white cabbage has a greater goiter inducing activity than non-cooked because of the destruction of vit. C by cooking, but the goiter-inducing substance is washed out during cooking. Mustard-oil-glycoside and myrosine have a strumigenic activity; wheat flour acts oppositely. Allylthiourea (30-40 mg./day) is goitrogenic, benzylthiourea has a similar effect but unsubstituted thioureas do not. Simultaneous admn. of diiodityrosine or thyroid hormone with allylthiourea prevents degeneration. Angora rabbits are more sensitive than other varieties. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
