Abstract
The three-component model for representing wide-range fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) behavior is evaluated by using a standard data set containing data at several load ratios on a 2219-T851 aluminum alloy. It is shown that this model can be used to model FCGR data accurately. The predicted fatigue lives for two geometries were obtained by integrating the fitted FCGR curves. These results compared well with the observed lives. Also, it was shown that the model has the flexibility to represent complex effects of load ratio over a wide range of load ratio and crack growth rate. This ability to interpolate easily between load ratios and to provide accurate fatigue life predictions makes the model an asset to design and reliability analyses.
