Abstract
Geography and phenomena of domination. — Geography has very often neglected the study of domination. The marxists were the first to analyze them, but they did not build any scientific theory upon this theme. A modern approach must clearly distinguish power, authority and influence : their spatial characteristics differ. More generally, domination is related to the architecture of information flows and to the different kinds of externalities. There is a close relationship between the spatial organization of societies and their power structures.
