Abstract
The complexes [Ru(CO)4L] and trans-[Ru(CO)3L2](L = PPh3, PMePh2, or PBun 3) have been obtained on photolysis of [Ru3(CO)12] in the presence of an excess of ligand. High-pressure carbonylation of readily available trans-[Ru(CO)3(PPh3)2] provides a further convenient route to [Ru(CO)4PPh3]. Unlike the corresponding iron complex, solid [Ru(CO)4PPh3] forms [Ru3(CO)9(PPh3)3] when heated, while in solution the tetracarbonyl complexes react with excess of ligand to form trans-[Ru(CO)3L2] The kinetics of this reaction have been studied and the results are compared with those for [Fe(CO)4Ph3].Keywords
