Abstract
Agroforestry, by definition, requires the use of trees in farming systems, The number and variety of different practices that have been developed – or which can be introduced – is considerable, and represents a powerful collection of tools with which to solve land use problems and realise land use potentials. Agroforestry is most effective in farming systems when used to solve specifically identified problems. This paper summarizes the main ways in which a variety of practices can provide benefits both in the form of produce, for home use or as cash crops, and as services, to improve or sustain the environment. Keywords
