Küntscher's method of closed intramedullary nailing of fractures of the shaft of the femur was used in forty-two fractures. All united and complications were minimum. The advantages and disadvantages and the indications and contraindications are described, with emphasis on the need for the proper apparatus and for following the exacting details of the technique.
