Abstract
An apparatus is described for measuring area of detached leaves. Two identically perforated plates are mounted on an airtight drum which is connected to a rotary pump. The rate of air flow (datum air flow) through the system is noted with 1 plate covered (the measuring grid) and 1 plate open (the specimen grid). Leaves are held flat by suction pressure on specimen grid. The area of leaves is measured by opening the measuring grid until the datum air flow is reached. The area exposed on measuring grid is then equal to the area of leaf. The method described is fast and accurate. Non-standard parts of this apparatus are being manufactured by Paton Industries, Adelaide. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
