Low Level in Vivo Measurement of Iodine-131 in Humans

Abstract
The calibration of a whole body counter for the measurement of pc amounts of I-131 in human thyroids is described. Two 3-in, diameter by 2-in. thick sodium-iodide crystals are used, connected in parallel and placed on each side of the neck over the thyroid area. Thyroid burdens as small as 20 pc may be measured at a 90 per cent confidence level with a 30-min counting period using the in vivo method described.
