Abstract
Neutron scattering experiments on planar one-dimensional magnets have been analyzed in terms of sine-Gordon solitons. We show here that at high magnetic fields the sine-Gordon soliton becomes unstable. This results in the spins becoming nonplanar at the center of the soliton. The change is discontinuous and contains hysteretic effects. Keywords
