Purification and Properties of Hexosamine Isomerase (EC 3.5.1.19) from Pig Intestinal Mucosa

Abstract
Hexosamine isomerase from pig intestinal mucosa was purified about 70-fold. The aminosugar product of the enzymatic reaction was identified as glucosamine 6-phosphate and amino ai/id product as glutamic acid. The pH optimum was 7.1. K(m)m for fructose 6-phosphate was 6.3 X 10^-4 mol/l and for L-glutamine 6.5 X 10^-4 mol/l.
