Cratering of glass surfaces exposed to a positive column plasma

Abstract
It is shown that the impact of ions from a positive column plasma on the tube wall is more likely to set atoms free and produce microcraters than to excite elastic waves. The maximum number of atoms liberated per ion is estimated from energy considerations based on thermal data.Keywords
