Abstract
Resting cells of P. chrysogenum strain Q176, grown on a medium in which acetate was the main source of C, were allowed to metabolize radioactive acetate for various periods of time. Effect of inhibitors on oxidation of acetate and incorporation of radioactivity into various intermediate compounds, and the distribu- tion of radioactivity among the carbon atoms of citrate and glutamate indicate that acetate is oxidized by way of a tricarboxylic acid cycle. Keywords
