Abstract
Aqueous solutions of p-aminobenzoic acid (0·3 per cent) were irradiated with gamma-rays under both oxygen-saturated and oxygen-free conditions. By means of paper chromatography, p-nitrobenzoic acid has been isolated from the irradiated, oxygenated aqueous solution and 4-amino-3-hydroxybenzoic acid isolated from the irradiated, oxygen-free aqueous solution. These products were probably produced by indirect action of the Co-60 gamma-rays.Keywords
