Abstract
To the Editor: Working in a diagnostic breast clinic1 where 80 per cent of the total patients with breast cancer in northern Alberta are referred, I have observed that some doctors are relying so much on mammograms in the diagnosis of breast cancer that a negative mammogram may actually contribute to delay in diagnosis.A study of mammographic and clinical diagnostic accuracy from the Cross Cancer Institute, 1971–1974,2 revealed 30 patients with breast cancer with either "normal" or "negative" mammograms obtained on the same day as examination by an experienced clinician whose findings were known to the radiologist and who . . .Keywords
