Über die Einwirkung von Säuren auf Fichtenholz

Abstract
Small sticks and cubes of spruce wood were treated with sulfuric acid and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) of various concentrations at boiling temperature. The percentage and the structure of the residues and the composition of the hydrolysates were studied. There was a distinct difference in the hydrolysis with low to medium acid concentration and with high acid concentration. TFA acts more on the sugars produced during hydrolysis than sulfuric acid. At high acid concentration the lignin skeleton is attacked by TFA, whereas it remains after H2SO4 treatment.
