Abstract
This work was based on cultures raised from spores collected at Tjibodas, Java. The spore germinates in a plate, in a more or less irregular mass, or (more rarely) in a filament. The mature gametophyte has a thick midrib and ruffled wings. The relatively large antheridium is of a primitive type with a wall of 5-7 cells. The archegonium has a straight and unusually long neck with 7-9 cells in each row. Apogamy is of frequent occurrence. The characteristics of the gametophyte suggest a closer relationship to the more primitive ferns, particularly the Gleicheniaceae, than to the Poly-podiaceae, and support the appropriateness of the family Dipteridaceae established by Seward and Dale. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
