Spike Artefact Associated with Fast Eye Movements in Electronystagmography and Its Importance in the Automatic Analysis of Saccades

Abstract
A negative spike of 10-20 ms duration can be recorded at the onset of a saccade in the electronystagmogram (ENG) of most patients if the electrode locations are suitable selected. Probably it originates in the muscles of the face. If care is not taken to minimize this artifact in ENG recording, it can prevent the accurate measurement of saccades from the ENG.
