Abstract
Summary: A method was found for obtaining constant death rates in white Swiss mice. Immunization of mice for short periods of time was accomplished by intraperitoneal inoculation with dead yeastlike cells of Histoplasma capsulatum, the broth filtrate from the growth of the mycelium, or the broth filtrate from the growth of the yeastlike cells. Subsequent intracerebral challenge revealed protection against 300–400 LD50 of H. capsulatum. Cross protection between Blastomyces dermatitidis and H. capsulatum was not noticeable in the strains tested, when acetone-dried cells of the yeastlike phase were used as protective antigens. Keywords
