Parametric decay of non-ducted whistler-mode signal

Abstract
It is shown that a whistler-mode signal propagating obliquely to the external magnetic field can parametrically decay into a daughter wave and an ion cyclotron wave. A dispersion relation involving a three-wave decay process is derived. Application of our results in space plasma is pointed out.Keywords
