Abstract
FOR many decades obstetricians have concerned themselves with finding newer drugs and combinations of drugs to alleviate the pain of the first stage of labor. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a method of relief of pain based on interference with the viscerosensory reflex. According to Reynolds,1 "Our present knowledge of the uterine innervation consists of numerous facts, many of which appear to be contradictory."
