Abstract
We consider the effects of hadron size and quark composition on the distribution of gluons in mesons and baryons. Coherence effects in the color-singlet bound state eliminate the usual quark-mass infrared singularity. The color cancellations are important for all unless the gluon transverse momentum is large compared to the inverse hadron size. Using a simple model for the meson bound state, we relate the scale size of color coherence to the scale of the electromagnetic form factor. Applications to the flavor and quarknumber dependence of total cross sections and gluon-induced reactions are discussed.
