Abstract
A new sesquiterpene lactone named xanthalongin was isolated from the flowers of Arnica longifolia Eat. (Asteraceae). Its structure has been established by UV, IR, NMR, ozonolyses and MS in comparison with carabrone. In addition two sesquiterpene lactones from the pseudoguaianolide typ were isolated and identified as helenalinacetate and dilydrohelenalinacetate.
