Abstract
Posttraumatic osteomyelitis and septic arthritis of the foot and ankle are difficult to treat. Chronically infected joints cannot be restored to function. After debridement and removal of infected cartilage, chains of gentamicin-PMMA beads and minibeads are temporarily implanted, and the wounds are closed. The beads release therapeutically effective local doses of gentamicin. Gentamicin-PMMA bead implants are a useful part of the total treatment program for chronic foot and ankle infections. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
