Hyperlipidemic arterial disease

Abstract
Atherosclerotic lesions are a characteristic change but not the only important pathophysiologic change in hyperlipidemic states. Nonatheromatous changes include an impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation of small (resistance) arteries and prothrombotic changes of cell surface molecules and circulating coagulation factors, effects that may play an important role in the pathophysiology of ischemic heart disease.
