Left Ventricular End-Diastolic Pressure (LVEDP) as an Index for Nitrous Oxide Use during Coronary Artery Surgery

Abstract
N2O has significant cardiovascular effects which may be depressant or stimulatory depending on the anesthetics with which it is used. The use of high-dose fentanyl and O2 anesthesia has been advocated in high-risk patients undergoing major cardiovascular surgery, avoiding N2O completely. No previous study focused on the preoperative state of the myocardium before N2O was administered to these patients. The effects of N2O on cardiovascular dynamics in patients with different preoperative cardiac states were evaluated.
