Abstract
Quantum rotational excitation energies in phase II of solid CH4 consisting of only A-spin species are calculated using the extended James-Keenan model. It is shown that the first excited rotational levels of the D2d and Oh molecules split into six levels at wavevector k=0. This result is compared with classical lattice dynamical calculations. Keywords
