Abstract
The representation of the transfer function of a linear system by a continued fraction as suggested by C. F. Chen and L. S. Shieh is shown to be non-general, and a generalized form is suggested. The mathematical basis for the simplification technique involving truncation of the continued fraction is elucidated, and different simplification techniques developed from another mathematical basis are described. Keywords
