The Binding of Sterols in Cellular Membranes

Abstract
Cholesterol is bound in most types of cellular membrane. The fact that the lipids of all the membranes can coalesce with those of plasma lipoproteins suggests that the surface structures of the membranes must be very similar. This need not necessarily mean that all membranes have an identical structure, but the above findings must be taken into account when possible structures are being considered.
