Abstract
Tetradonema plicans Cobb was observed parasitizing larvae, pupae, and adults of Bradysia coprophila (Lintner) (Diptera: Sciaridae) in greenhouse pot cultures. This is apparently the first observation of the nematode since its description 50 years ago. Many females do not develop capsules as was described originally, but instead become packed with eggs throughout their entire length. The gonads are outstretched, and a modified intestinal tissue extends to the tail. Nonencapsulated females may escape from maggots and lay eggs in the external environment. These eggs hatch within several weeks. The diagnosis of the genus Tetradonema and diagnosis of the family Tetradonematidae are both emended, and a key to the genera of the family is presented.
