Magnetostriction near the Néel temperature of MnF2

Abstract

The longitudinal and transverse magnetostriction in MnF2 were measured near the Néel temperature. The low‐field data are compared with a model in which the magnetostriction is largely caused by the strain dependence of the dominant exchange interaction. The magnetic phase diagram for H↘∥[001], obtained from the magnetostriction data, is analyzed in terms of recent theories.
