Abstract
Rapid infusion of fructose in man resulted in splanchnic production of lactate greater than pyruvate. Vasodilation of the coronary and peripheral vascular beds with increased blood flow at unchanged O2 consumption occurred in association with elevated concentrations of lactate and pyruvate. An unexplained visceral pain response was noted in the epigastrium and substernal area in most subjects. Calculation of excess lactate was positive both for the myocardium and for total body in the absence of evidence of O, debt. A limitation in the use of the excess lactate concept was demonstrated under these conditions. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
