Abstract
IMPALEMENT of the rectum is a relatively rare occurrence as compared with other accidents resulting in internal injuries. The impalement is usually caused by accidental fall upon a sharp and stick-like object, with the point of impact on the anal canal or on the immediate vicinity of the anus. Sometimes, it is the morbid consequence of a callous prank played upon a victim. Rupture of the large bowel and the rectum by compressed air is not an infrequent industrial accident.
