Investigation of the quadrupole interaction of W in Zn single crystals after recoil implantation

Abstract
The quadrupole interactions of the 2+ states of W182,184,186 have been studied by using time-integrated perturbed angular correlations after Coulomb excitation. The experiments have been performed by using 40-MeV O16 ions to implant the tungsten nuclei in zinc single crystals of hexagonal structure. A strong electric quadrupole interaction has been observed and the electric field gradient acting on W in Zn has been evaluated using values for the quadrupole moments derived from E2 transition probabilities and the rotational model.
