MINI‐EXCHANGE AND TRANSFUSION THERAPY FOR DRUG‐INDUCED THROMBOCYTOPENIA

Abstract
Patients suffering from severe thrombocytopenia require treatment for hypovolæmia at the same time as the platelet deficiency is being corrected. Removal of half a litre of blood from the patient followed by moderately fast transfusion of a litre of fresh blood rectifies both deficiencies without the use of platelet concentrates. Illustrative cases are described.
