Abstract
RECENT evidence from seroepidemiologic and volunteer studies has established Eaton agent (Mycoplasma pneumoniae∥) as the causative agent of cold agglutinin-positive primary atypical pneumonia.2 3 4 5 In the majority of untreated cases the duration of the illness is generally two or three weeks, with complete resolution of the clinical and radiographic abnormalities.6 This report describes an unusually severe case in which the patient was in the hospital for six weeks and in which a residual radiographic abnormality was present one year after the onset of illness. Diagnosis was established by isolation of M. pneumoniae and the development of a sixteenfold rise . . .Keywords
