Abstract
The kinetic equation describing a surface gas containing components adsorbed physically and chemically has been written down and solved by the Chapman-Enskog method. In this equation chemical reactions between adsorbed components, and the desorption of the component adsorbed physically have been taken into account. The description of the desorption process resulting from the theory has been presented in some detail. The existence of coupling effects between elementary molecular processes has been demonstrated and the order of magnitude of these effects estimated. The importance of the desorption-chemical reaction coupling to heterogeneous catalysis has been pointed out. Keywords
