Abstract
Cystic ovaries were produced in the hypothyroid rat by daily injections of chorionic gonadotrophin. The influence of the hypothyroid state on the ovarian uptake of P32 was studied by comparing the 4-hr uptake between hypothyroid and euthyroid animals and hypothyroid and euthyroid chorionic gonadotrophin- injected animals. Hypothyroidism enhanced the uptake of radiophosphate. Hypothyroid, injected rats showed a marked increase in uptake after a single injection, this increased uptake occurring long before any other detectable change in the ovary.
