Abstract
Examination of the mass spectra of several compounds shows that either a hydrogen molecule or hydrogen atoms may be ejected during fragmentation, and leads to the conclusion that the geometry of the intermediate ions may be inferred. It can then be decided whether these ions react through the ground or excited state, as the case may be, if it is accepted that the usual molecular orbital methods can be applied.
